Self-Knowledge - Sheikh Mohammad Ali Shomali
In the first few years after my conversion to Islam I read several books, many of which were no doubt inspiring, some of which left an imprint upon my soul. However, it was not until I read this particular book that I really began to grasp the concept of self-understanding, and it led me to the beginning of an internal journey and to a deep interest in the subject of knowledge of the self. Indeed, prior to its reading I had lived as a Muslim with inner faith whilst performing outer acts of worship, but upon turning its pages I found myself being able to comprehend more deeply the two aspects of the exoteric and the esoteric as being inseparable. I admit that on many occasions I felt as though the author was talking to me personally, since his obvious knowledge on the subject was precise and articulate. This, together with the refreshingly concise and simple language used, made its reading an altogether outstanding experience.
